いちごのシーズンです!

It's strawberry season!

Hello.

It's finally strawberry season, with strawberries lining up in supermarkets and shops, and often seen in cakes and sweets.

This year, the temperature has been high, so planting is slightly delayed. The overall harvest seems to be normal, but the sugar content is slightly lower.

Strawberries, popular with children and adults alike, are not only delicious, but also rich in vitamin C. Eating seven to eight medium-sized strawberries will provide most of your daily vitamin C needs. When it comes to strawberries, "Meiho" and "Toyonoka" were once the main varieties, but now "Tochiotome," "Amaou," and "Benihoppe" are the mainstream. Strawberries undergo a generational change every 10 to 20 years, so new varieties are constantly being created, and in recent years, "white strawberries" and pink strawberries have become more common.

Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which can help prevent colds and improve skin condition. They are also rich in folic acid, a vitamin that is said to help build blood, making them effective in preventing anemia. Strawberries also contain pectin, a dietary fiber that helps prevent blood sugar levels from rising and cholesterol absorption.

Although not as much as grapes, strawberries also contain a pigment called anthocyanin, a type of polyphenol, which may also have anti-carcinogenic properties.

How to distinguish strawberries:

  1. The whole fruit is stained red
  2. The skin is firm and shiny
  3. Has a distinctive strawberry scent
  4. The stem is sharp and the grains are clearly visible.
  5. There is no hit part on the strawberry

Some examples include:

This is the season when it is used for Christmas cakes, so the prices are on the higher side, but they will start to drop from mid-January and become more affordable, so please enjoy it to the fullest.
