Hello.
There isn't much time left this year. Things are getting hectic and busy.
Today, we will introduce recommended apple varieties and how to choose them.
I'm sure everyone has their own preferences, so I hope you can find something you like.
Currently, the apple production volume by variety is as follows: 1st place Fuji, 2nd place Orin , 3rd place Jonagold .
San Fuji...Number one in domestic production. An exquisite balance of sweetness and sourness. A popular variety that has the perfect combination of sweetness, sourness, and a chewy texture. It easily absorbs nectar and is full of juice.
Jonagold...A unique American apple with a sweet yet tart flavor. A hybrid of Golden Delicious and Kogyoku. While slightly tart, it's also sweet enough to enjoy its rich, mellow flavor. Perfect for eating raw, or cooking.
Ourin...A representative yellow-green apple. It has a strong sweetness and a mellow fragrance. This yellow-green variety was named after the meaning of "king of apples." Although it may appear to have a strong sour taste, it is characterized by its strong sweetness and light, crisp texture.
Akiyo: An original variety from Yamagata Prefecture. It has a firm texture and a rich flavor. This new variety, originally from Yamagata, debuted on the market in 2006 and is popular for its sweet and sour, rich flavor. You can enjoy its firm, crunchy texture.
Shinano Sweet... As its name suggests, this growing variety boasts a strong sweetness and a vibrant red color. Characterized by its sweet and crunchy texture, it is one of Nagano Prefecture's representative varieties. Its juiciness and rich sweetness make it popular with a wide range of people, from children to the elderly.
Shinano Gold... A cross between "Golden Delicious" and "Chiaki," this yellow apple has a crisp, firm texture. It 's juicy and sweet with a strong acidity . This apple is recommended for those who like sour apples .
Toki... A yellow apple that represents Aomori Prefecture. It is characterized by a refreshing sweetness and fragrance. Registered in 2004, this new variety has a pale yellow skin and pale yellow flesh. It has a low acidity, a rich, refreshing sweetness, and a crunchy texture that is very popular.
Haruka... A hybrid of "Golden Delicious" and "Star King," it was developed at Iwate University's Faculty of Agriculture in 2002. It is a rare apple variety with low production. Haruka's most notable feature is its high sugar content. It averages over 15 degrees, yet has a mild acidity. It is said to be easy to get honey into, which is rare for a yellow apple. The flesh is firm and has a crisp texture. Grown without a bag and exposed to plenty of sunlight, Haruka has freckles on its yellow skin.
Kodoku...Kodoku apples are harvested around October, and are mostly available until around December. Stored apples are available until the spring of the following year. They are characterized by their bright red skin and strong sourness. They have a pleasant aroma, and when eaten raw, they have a rich, sweet and sour flavor. Because of their strong sourness, they are in high demand for cooking and processing (apple pie, jam, tarts, etc.). They are a popular apple. If you like sour apples, you should definitely try Kodoku apples raw. Fully ripe Kodoku apples are full of juice, and you can enjoy a refreshing sweet and sour taste.
What did you think? It's impossible to categorize them as good or bad, so research the characteristics of each variety and find the flavor that suits you.
